Peugeot is one of Focal’s strongest automotive relationships. There are two different sides to that relationship, and they must not be confused.

The first is Focal Inside: aftermarket speaker kits and supporting products developed for selected factory locations. The core Peugeot products are IS PSA 165 component speakers and IC PSA 165 coaxial speakers. Depending on the documented application, an upgrade may also include an Impulse 4.320 amplifier, the correct vehicle-specific Y-ISO harness, extension and power cabling, a compact subwoofer and acoustic treatment.

The second is Peugeot’s factory Focal Premium Hi-Fi option. Selected Peugeot 3008, 5008, 308, 408 and 508 variants were designed from new with a multi-speaker Focal system, dedicated amplification, vehicle-specific tuning and, in many cases, a factory subwoofer. Those vehicles are not standard-audio Peugeot applications and should not be treated as though the same four-channel Y-harness package can simply replace the complete system.

Focal’s current vehicle selector documents 15 Peugeot applications. These include selected generations of the 2008, 208, E-208, 3008, 308, 5008, 508, Rifter and Traveller. The broader Focal Australia table also contains older Peugeot cars, vans, shared-platform vehicles and more recent models. That additional information may be useful, but every row must be checked against current product availability, the exact vehicle and the original audio system.

Compatibility depends on more than the Peugeot badge or a nominal 165mm speaker size. It can change with:

For a documented standard-audio application, Focal Inside can provide a clean and efficient upgrade path. Where no exact application is confirmed, a Peugeot may still be an excellent candidate for a professionally tailored Focal system using custom mounting, appropriate integration and measured tuning.

1. Can a Peugeot factory audio system be upgraded with Focal?

Yes. Many Peugeot factory audio systems can be improved with correctly matched Focal speakers, amplification, bass reinforcement and acoustic treatment.

Possible benefits include:

• More natural instrument tone
• Better separation between instruments
• Smoother and more detailed high frequencies
• Stronger and tighter mid-bass
• Less harshness or congestion at higher volume

The correct design depends on the starting system. A basic Peugeot audio package with unamplified door speakers can be very different from a ten-speaker factory Focal system with a dedicated amplifier and subwoofer.

A more ambitious system may add amplification, DSP, a compact subwoofer and BAM acoustic treatment. Vehicles with a factory premium system may require channel-by-channel measurement, load management, specialised integration and retention of selected original components.

The decisive point is that a Peugeot can normally be upgraded, but the solution must be designed for the exact vehicle rather than inferred from the model name alone.

2. Does Focal offer dedicated Peugeot Plug & Play speaker kits?

Yes. Focal offers genuine Peugeot-focused products, but they are not universal kits for every Peugeot ever sold.

The principal current speaker products are:

• IS PSA 165: a 165mm two-way component kit with separate tweeters
• IC PSA 165: a 165mm two-way coaxial kit

For selected standard-audio vehicles, the current configurator may also show:

Focal’s current Peugeot selector lists 15 vehicle applications. This is meaningful dedicated coverage, but it is narrower than the Focal Australia table. The selector currently includes selected 2008, 208, E-208, 3008 II, 308 II, 308 SW, 5008, 508 variants, Rifter and Traveller applications.

Plug & Play should be understood as an application-specific installation advantage. It does not mean that every Peugeot uses the same speaker basket, radio connector, impedance or factory signal.

Even a documented application may require:

• The supplied tweeter support
• A Peugeot mounting spacer
• Correct sealing between the speaker and door
• Trim removal and careful clip replacement
• A fused power cable for an added amplifier
• Space confirmation for a subwoofer
• Verification that the vehicle does not have factory premium audio

Focal itself advises that compatibility must be checked before purchase and that adjustments may sometimes be necessary. Each component is sold separately unless a Focal Australia product page specifically identifies a complete packaged system.

3. Which Peugeot models have the clearest current Focal Inside applications?

The clearest applications are the vehicles for which Focal’s live selector shows actual products and speaker positions.

Peugeot 2008

Focal lists the first-generation Peugeot 2008 for 2013–2023. The selector shows IS PSA 165 component speakers and IC PSA 165 coaxial speakers, with amplified and bass-enhanced configurations for compatible original systems.

The broad selector date should still be checked against the precise generation. The current facelift and later Australian hybrid should not automatically inherit an earlier installation merely because the 2008 name continues.

Peugeot 208 and E-208

Focal documents first-generation three-door and five-door 208 applications, the second-generation 208 from 2019, and an E-208 application for 2019–2023. These applications use PSA-format speakers in identified positions.

The Australian customer base is likely to consist mainly of older petrol 208 vehicles and privately imported electric models. Market specification, head unit and factory audio must be checked. A 2026 E-208 GTi row should not be treated as confirmed merely because earlier E-208 products exist.

Peugeot 3008 II

Focal documents the second-generation 3008 from 2016 and shows acoustic, amplified and powered configurations. These can use IS PSA 165 and IC PSA 165, plus an Impulse 4.320 and supporting wiring for specifically compatible standard systems.

This application does not establish compatibility with the latest third-generation 3008 Hybrid or E-3008. It also does not mean the standard system shown can be installed in a 3008 already equipped with factory Focal Premium Hi-Fi.

Peugeot 308 II and 308 SW

Focal documents the second-generation 308 and the earlier 308 SW application. The current Australian 308 Hybrid is a later generation and selected variants have factory Focal premium audio, so it needs separate confirmation.

Peugeot 5008, 508, Rifter and Traveller

Focal lists selected previous-generation 5008, 508, 508 SW, 508 RXH, Rifter and Traveller applications. These can provide useful starting points, but the exact model dates in the Australian table require correction and premium-audio vehicles must be separated.

The strongest wording for all these models is: confirmed for the exact application shown by Focal, subject to verification of build date, speaker position and original audio system.

4. What do the Peugeot-compatible Focal products actually do?

The products in the category have different roles and should not be described as though all ten are interchangeable Peugeot speaker kits.

IS PSA 165

IS PSA 165 is a two-way component speaker kit. It separates the woofer and tweeter so the higher frequencies can be positioned closer to the factory tweeter location. It is commonly used in front doors and in some rear component-speaker applications.

IC PSA 165

IC PSA 165 is a two-way coaxial speaker. Its tweeter is integrated with the woofer, making it suitable for confirmed locations that use a coaxial arrangement. It is often shown for rear doors, though some vehicles can use it in other documented positions.

IFP 207

IFP 207 was developed as a dedicated Peugeot kit, but Focal now lists it as no longer available. It should not remain a general current recommendation. If Focal Australia has genuine remaining stock, the page should clearly identify it as discontinued stock and confirm warranty and vehicle applicability.

Impulse 4.320

The Impulse 4.320 is a compact four-channel digital amplifier. It can provide more clean power and control than a compatible factory head unit, but it requires the correct input harness, extension cable, power supply, mounting location and gain setup.

PSA Y-ISO harness

This is an amplifier-integration harness for selected post-2016 original Citroën, DS and Peugeot head units. It is designed around the Impulse 4.320 installation. It is not a speaker adaptor, does not supply amplifier power and should not be used as a universal solution for every Peugeot.

Toyota and BMW-labelled Y-harnesses

The Toyota harness may be relevant to a confirmed Peugeot 108 application because the vehicle shares architecture with the Toyota Aygo. That relationship must be explained and the exact head unit confirmed.

The BMW-labelled harness entries for older 307, 308, 407 and 508 rows are not self-explanatory. They should be removed from the public table or supported by a current application document identifying the exact factory radio and complete amplifier installation.

ISUB and HILO products

ISUB ACTIVE, ISUB ACTIVE 2.1 and ISUB TWIN are bass-system products. HILO V3 is a universal high-to-low-level converter. None is a direct Peugeot door-speaker replacement, and all require appropriate system design.

5. Can a Peugeot 208, E-208, 2008 or E-2008 be upgraded?

Yes, but the generation and powertrain must be identified precisely.

Older Peugeot 208 and first-generation 2008 vehicles represent some of the clearest Focal Inside opportunities. A compatible standard system may accept IS PSA 165 front component speakers and IC PSA 165 rear coaxial speakers. Some documented vehicles can also use an Impulse 4.320 configuration and a compact bass solution.

Important checks include:

• Three-door or five-door 208 body
• First- or second-generation vehicle
• Pre-facelift or facelift build
• Petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric powertrain
• Original speaker count
• Factory tweeter locations
• Head-unit generation
• Factory amplifier or premium-audio option
• Front-door mounting spacer requirements
• Available space for amplifier and subwoofer equipment

An E-208 or E-2008 requires the same acoustic and electrical checks as its combustion-engine relative, plus safe work practices around the high-voltage vehicle. Audio equipment normally operates from the 12-volt system, but the installer must follow Peugeot shutdown, isolation and routing procedures and must never use the high-voltage traction system as an audio power source.

The table should avoid predicted compatibility. A row ending in 2027 or a new E-208 GTi entry can look authoritative even where no installation has been physically confirmed. New infotainment software, speaker loads, active sound functions or connectors can change while the external model name remains familiar.

For Australian owners, it is also important to distinguish locally delivered vehicles from private imports. An imported E-208 can have different trim, audio specification and parts availability from a superficially similar overseas application.

6. Can a Peugeot 3008 or 5008 audio system be upgraded?

Yes. Previous-generation standard-audio 3008 and 5008 vehicles have well-developed Focal Inside pathways, while current-generation and factory Focal-equipped vehicles require separate treatment.

For the documented 3008 II and selected 5008 application, Focal shows combinations using:

• IS PSA 165 front component speakers
• IC PSA 165 or IS PSA 165 rear speakers, depending on the configuration
• Impulse 4.320 amplification
• The specifically listed harness and extension wiring
• PSB200 or ISUB TWIN bass reinforcement

These solutions can improve clarity, soundstage width, mid-bass control and clean volume in the large cabin.

However, the model transition is crucial. The all-new Australian 3008 Hybrid and 5008 Hybrid use a later vehicle architecture. Selected grades include a ten-speaker factory Focal system. Compatibility from the previous generation should not be copied across to them.

A factory Focal vehicle may contain:

• Multiple tweeters and midrange/woofer channels
• A centre speaker
• A dedicated subwoofer
• A factory multi-channel amplifier
• Model-specific crossover and equalisation
• Different channel delays and level calibration

Replacing only two door speakers can unbalance this system, change channel loading or make the front stage worse. The correct process is to measure each channel, identify which factory components are limiting performance and decide whether to retain, replace or integrate around them.

The category table should therefore divide 3008 and 5008 entries into previous-generation standard audio, previous-generation Focal Premium Hi-Fi, current-generation standard audio and current-generation Focal Premium Hi-Fi. Those are four different installation starting points.

7. Can a Peugeot 308, 408 or 508 audio system be upgraded?

Yes, but these models particularly demonstrate why factory audio identification matters.

Focal documents the second-generation 308 and selected 508 variants for aftermarket Focal Inside speakers. The Australian table also lists the current 408 and later 508. Focal and Peugeot, however, have offered factory Focal Premium Hi-Fi systems in selected 308, 408 and 508 grades.

For a compatible standard system, an upgrade may use IS PSA 165 and IC PSA 165 speakers, with optional amplification and bass reinforcement. For a factory Focal system, the installer should first determine whether the owner’s concern is:

• Insufficient bass extension
• Too much factory equalisation
• Limited maximum clean volume
• A low or diffuse front soundstage
• A failed original speaker
• Rattles and resonance
• Lack of user-adjustable tuning

The remedy may be a carefully integrated subwoofer, acoustic treatment, DSP correction or selective channel improvement rather than wholesale speaker replacement.

The 508 dates require an immediate correction. Peugeot presented the original 508 at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and sales began in early 2011. The current table’s 2001 start date is impossible. The 508 SW and RXH also need their own accurate production periods rather than inheriting the same incorrect range.

The 408 China row should not sit beside the Australian/European 408 without a clear market label. They are different applications. The current 408 is also absent from Focal’s live Peugeot selector, so its table entry should be described as locally supplied compatibility data requiring confirmation—not as a current published Focal Inside application.

8. Can older Peugeot 206, 207, 307, 407, RCZ and 108 models be upgraded?

Yes. Older Peugeots can respond very well to an audio upgrade because their original speakers may now be worn, water-damaged, brittle or mechanically fatigued.

IS PSA 165 and IC PSA 165 may suit selected 206, 307, 407 and RCZ positions when the mounting and electrical details are confirmed. Older vehicles can also be adapted to use suitable Focal Universal, Access, Slatefiber, Flax Evo or other ranges where a current direct-fit kit is unavailable.

Important issues in older vehicles include:

• Perished foam or suspension materials
• Water entry inside the door
• Damaged factory connectors
• Previous aftermarket wiring
• Missing moisture barriers
• Weak door-card clips
• Incorrectly fitted spacers
• Shallow factory mounting depth
• Ageing factory head units
• Non-standard imported trim specifications

The dedicated IFP 207 product has been discontinued. A current replacement recommendation must therefore be based on IS PSA 165 or another suitable speaker only after physical fitment is checked.

The 108 is a special shared-platform case. It is closely related to the Toyota Aygo and Citroën C1, which explains why Toyota-format Focal products may appear in its application. Shared architecture can support compatibility, but it does not remove the need to verify the exact radio, connector, speaker location and market specification.

For 307 and 407 rows, the category should identify whether the dates refer to a facelift rather than the whole generation. BMW-labelled Y-harness entries should not be left unexplained. Older Quadlock-style connectors can look similar while wiring, pin allocation, loading and vehicle behaviour differ.

9. Can Peugeot Partner, Expert, Traveller, Rifter and Boxer vans be upgraded?

Yes. Commercial vans and passenger vans are often excellent audio-upgrade candidates because the factory system is designed primarily for basic functionality while the cabin has high road, tyre, wind and cargo-area noise.

Focal’s live Peugeot selector currently documents Rifter and Traveller applications. The Australian table also lists Partner and Expert generations. These may use IS PSA 165 and IC PSA 165 in confirmed positions, sometimes with a required front spacer.

A van installation should consider:

• Panel-van or passenger-van body
• Short, medium or long wheelbase
• Cargo barrier and shelving
• Metal bulkhead or open cabin
• Front-only or rear speaker provision
• Factory head-unit output
• Parking-sensor and phone audio
• Constant commercial use
• Available under-seat space
• Battery and accessory loads
• Door resonance and road noise

The table should correct Traveler to Traveller. It should also avoid assuming a facelift retains the same harness merely because the door speaker diameter appears unchanged.

Adding amplification can improve clarity at motorway speed, but the complete installation requires the correct Y-harness, extension cable, fused power supply and safe mounting. A compact subwoofer can add useful low-frequency weight without consuming the main cargo area, although placement must not obstruct seat movement, service access, cargo restraint or vehicle ventilation.

The Boxer is an important Australian search term even though it is not currently listed in Focal’s Peugeot selector or the displayed table. It should remain in the informational guide as a custom-installation opportunity, not be added to the Plug & Play compatibility table without an exact application.

10. How is a factory Focal Premium Hi-Fi system different from an aftermarket Focal Inside upgrade?

They are different product and integration pathways, even though both carry the Focal name.

A Focal Inside system replaces or supplements selected standard factory equipment. It may use direct-fit component and coaxial speakers, a compact aftermarket amplifier, integration harnesses and a separately installed subwoofer.

A factory Focal Premium Hi-Fi system is developed with Peugeot as original equipment. Depending on the model, it may include ten or more speakers, a centre channel, dedicated tweeters and woofers, a subwoofer, a multi-channel amplifier and vehicle-specific tuning.

The factory system may already provide excellent speaker quality, but an owner may still want:

• Greater sub-bass output
• More headroom at high volume
• Different tonal balance
• More precise staging
• Correction for personal listening preferences
• Reduced panel resonance
• Replacement of a failed component

The upgrade must preserve the system’s electrical loading and channel behaviour. A conventional four-channel speaker-level harness may not carry every active channel, and it may not be suitable for a factory-amplified source.

The installer may need to:

• Measure every factory output
• Determine analogue or digitally transported signals
• Identify equalisation, crossovers and time alignment
• Retain factory speakers that carry unique functions
• Present safe loads to the original amplifier
• Sum selected channels for a subwoofer or DSP input
• Prevent noise, turn-on pops and diagnostic faults
• Tune the new system against the original acoustic target

The category should state plainly that a factory Focal badge does not mean the IS PSA 165/IC PSA 165 standard-audio package is the correct upgrade.

11. Can the original Peugeot head unit, touchscreen and vehicle controls be retained?

Usually, yes. Retaining the original Peugeot infotainment system is generally desirable because it can control vehicle settings, climate displays, parking functions, cameras, Bluetooth, navigation, warning tones and steering-wheel commands.

In a confirmed passive speaker application, the original source can remain connected to replacement Focal speakers. In an amplified installation, the correct integration method takes the audio signal from the original source while leaving vehicle functions intact.

The system designer must verify:

• Whether the outputs are high-level, low-level or digitally transported
• Whether the original head unit expects a particular speaker load
• Whether channels are full-range or factory-filtered
• Whether the vehicle applies volume-dependent equalisation
• Whether warning and parking sounds share the audio channels
• Whether active noise or synthetic drivetrain sound is present
• Whether the system wakes and sleeps correctly after an amplifier is added
• Whether the vehicle has a factory amplifier elsewhere in the cabin

The PSA Y-ISO harness can simplify a supported post-2016 Impulse 4.320 installation, but it does not make every Peugeot system compatible. The harness must match the radio connector and documented configuration, and the amplifier still needs its extension and fused power wiring.

An aftermarket head unit can be possible in some older models, but modern Peugeot integration makes replacement increasingly complex. Interfaces may be needed to retain steering controls, vehicle menus, cameras, parking tones and factory amplification. In many cases, keeping the original source and improving everything after it is the cleaner result.

12. Does a Peugeot speaker upgrade need an amplifier or DSP?

Not always, but amplification and digital signal processing can substantially improve the result.

A speaker-only upgrade can be appropriate when:

• The factory source provides useful clean output
• The new speakers are efficient and electrically suitable
• The owner wants a moderate improvement
• The budget prioritises front speakers and installation quality
• There is no severe factory equalisation or filtering

An amplifier becomes more valuable when the owner wants greater clean volume, stronger mid-bass, better transient control or a subwoofer. The Impulse 4.320 is one compact option for documented standard-audio applications.

A DSP becomes valuable when the factory system has:

• Strong equalisation intended for the original speakers
• Separate frequency-limited channels
• Uneven speaker distances
• A factory centre channel
• A multi-channel Focal premium amplifier
• Difficult integration with a subwoofer
• Poor staging or tonal imbalance
• A requirement for precise crossover and time-alignment control

Professional tuning should include measurement rather than relying only on listening. The installer can examine frequency response, channel polarity, phase, delay, crossover behaviour, clipping and maximum clean source level.

The best system is not necessarily the one with the most equipment. A well-installed speaker set with proper sealing and door treatment can outperform a poorly tuned amplifier-and-DSP package. Conversely, premium speakers connected to a heavily filtered or underpowered source may never deliver their potential.

13. Can a subwoofer be added to a Peugeot?

Yes. A correctly integrated subwoofer can improve low-frequency extension and reduce the demand placed on the door speakers.

Possible approaches include:

• A compact powered subwoofer
• ISUB ACTIVE 2.1 with suitable system integration
• ISUB TWIN with compatible amplification

The choice depends on output expectations, available space, cargo use, seat movement, spare-wheel access, power availability and the signal that can be obtained from the original system.

A subwoofer installation requires more than placing a product under a seat. The installer must confirm:

• Safe physical clearance and ventilation
• A secure mounting method
• Correct fused power and earth wiring
• Suitable signal level and bandwidth
• Turn-on and sleep behaviour
• Crossover frequency and slope
• Phase and delay relative to the front speakers
• Gain setting without clipping
• Protection of cargo and service access

In a factory Focal Premium Hi-Fi vehicle, the original subwoofer channel may be equalised or dynamically limited. A DSP or integration processor may be needed to derive a stable signal. Simply adding bass to one filtered channel can produce uneven response.

The subwoofer products displayed on the Peugeot category are therefore useful options, but they are not direct replacements guaranteed for every model.

14. Can Focal BAM acoustic treatment improve a Peugeot?

Yes. Acoustic treatment can be one of the most effective improvements, particularly in large Peugeot doors, SUVs and vans.

Focal BAM is designed to combine damping, absorption and acoustic control. Applied appropriately around the speaker and door structure, it can:

• Reduce panel resonance
• Reduce vibration and buzzes
• Improve speaker-to-door sealing
• Strengthen perceived mid-bass
• Reduce sound leaking into the door cavity
• Improve clarity at moderate and higher volume
• Lower some road and tyre noise entering through treated panels

Treatment should be targeted rather than used to block drains, wiring, airbags, locks, window mechanisms or service openings. The installer must retain water management and safe door operation.

In a Peugeot van, treatment can be particularly valuable because broad metal panels resonate and road noise masks detail. In an SUV or hatch, front-door treatment can stabilise the mid-bass foundation and reduce rattles before more amplifier power is added.

Acoustic treatment does not replace correct speakers, amplification or tuning. It improves the mechanical environment in which those components operate. For many owners, the best value first stage is high-quality front speakers, correct mounting and sealing, plus selective BAM treatment. Rear speakers, amplification and a subwoofer can then be added according to budget and listening priorities.

15. How do I confirm Peugeot compatibility, and what will an upgrade cost?

Start with the exact vehicle rather than the product list.

Provide the dealer with:
