A professionally designed Renault speaker upgrade can deliver clearer vocals, stronger mid-bass, more natural detail, cleaner volume and deeper low-frequency performance while retaining the original dashboard, infotainment system and normal vehicle operation.

The correct solution depends on much more than the Renault badge or the nominal diameter of a door speaker.

Renault vehicles found in Australia include small hatchbacks, coupes, family SUVs, performance cars, electric vehicles and commercial vans. Their original audio systems range from simple four- or six-speaker arrangements to Bose and Harman Kardon systems with dedicated amplification, additional channels, equalisation and a factory subwoofer.

Focal has genuine Renault-specific history. The current Focal Renault catalogue contains the IS RNS 165 component kit and IC RNS 165 coaxial kit, while its Focal Inside selector publishes 28 Renault model applications. Some of those applications have Renault-certified configurations for standard factory audio systems.

The Focal Australia category goes considerably further. Its table contains 68 rows, including older vehicles, overseas models and newer 2025–2026 applications that do not appear in Focal’s current public selector. Several new-model rows also say that the speaker fixing holes must be adapted. Those entries may be useful local compatibility leads, but they should not be presented as identical to a documented direct-fit application.

Current Renault Australia models add another layer. The August 2026 range includes Symbioz, Scenic E-Tech, Megane E-Tech, Koleos, Duster, Arkana Hybrid, Kangoo, Trafic and the new Master, including electric commercial variants. Most of these current-generation vehicles are not listed in Focal’s live Renault selector, and selected grades have integrated Bose or Harman Kardon systems.

The category therefore needs two honest pathways:

• Confirmed Focal Inside products for exact documented standard-audio applications
• Professionally measured and tailored Focal systems for newer, unsupported, premium-audio or adaptation-required vehicles

Both pathways can produce an excellent result. The distinction protects the customer from ordering the wrong speaker, harness or amplifier and makes the page more credible for search engines, answer engines and installers.

1. Can the factory audio system in a Renault be upgraded with Focal?

Yes. Most Renault factory audio systems can be improved with correctly selected Focal equipment, but the required parts and installation method vary significantly between models and audio packages.

A suitable Renault upgrade may include:

• Replacement front component speakers
• Replacement rear coaxial or component speakers
• Improved tweeters and vehicle-specific mounting
• A compact four-channel amplifier
• A multi-channel amplifier with digital signal processing
• A powered or passive subwoofer
• Vehicle-specific or custom speaker adaptors
• Correctly terminated connector leads
• Focal BAM acoustic treatment
• Measurement, crossover setup and final tuning

Typical improvements include clearer speech and vocals, better instrument separation, smoother treble, stronger mid-bass, reduced distortion at higher volume and a more stable front soundstage. A subwoofer can add low-frequency extension without forcing the door speakers to reproduce bass they were never designed to handle.

Before products are selected, the installer should identify:

• Exact Renault model and generation
• Build month, model year and vehicle identification details
• Australian-delivered or imported specification
• Body style, trim and cabin configuration
• Factory speaker count and speaker locations
• Standard, Arkamys, Bose, Harman Kardon or another audio package
• Presence and location of the factory amplifier and subwoofer
• Original speaker impedance and electrical load
• Speaker diameter, basket shape, mounting depth and grille clearance
• Factory connectors, polarity and channel routing
• Infotainment system and available source signals
• Factory equalisation, crossover filtering and volume-dependent processing
• Phone, navigation, parking and warning-sound routing
• Active noise-control or synthetic vehicle-sound functions
• Previous repairs or audio modifications

A factory location described as 130mm or 165mm does not guarantee that a speaker of the same advertised size will fit. The bolt pattern, basket profile, depth, window clearance, connector, impedance and factory processing all affect compatibility.

For a basic standard-audio vehicle, a confirmed Focal Inside speaker replacement may be straightforward. For a current E-Tech model or a Bose or Harman Kardon vehicle, the installation may require multi-channel measurement, custom mounting and DSP integration. The vehicle should be inspected before a final product list or fixed installation price is issued.

2. Does Focal offer dedicated Renault Plug & Play speaker kits?

Yes. Focal currently offers genuine Renault-oriented speaker products, but they are not universal kits for every Renault.

The current Renault product catalogue lists:

• IS RNS 165 two-way component speakers
• IC RNS 165 two-way coaxial speakers

IS RNS 165 uses a 165mm Polyglass woofer, separate aluminium inverted-dome tweeters and integrated filtering. Focal rates the kit at 60 watts RMS, 120 watts maximum, 4 ohms and 92.7dB sensitivity. Its compact neodymium motor and supplied tweeter mounting options help it integrate into compatible factory locations.

IC RNS 165 is a 165mm coaxial kit rated at 60 watts RMS, 120 watts maximum, 4 ohms and 92dB sensitivity. It uses Focal’s water-resistant DFS woven-glass-fibre cone and an adjustable aluminium tweeter. It is commonly used in compatible rear-door positions, although the exact location depends on the application.

Focal’s live Renault selector lists 28 model applications. These include particular versions of Alaskan, Captur, Clio IV, Espace V, Kadjar, Koleos, Laguna III, Latitude, Master III, Mégane III and IV, Scenic IV, Talisman, Trafic III and Zoe.

That does not mean every vehicle carrying one of those names accepts the same products. A generation, build date, body style, speaker position and factory audio package still need to match the application record.

Plug & Play should not be interpreted as meaning:

• Every Renault speaker uses the same connector or bolt pattern
• Every tweeter clips directly into the original bracket
• Every vehicle needs no spacer or mounting adaptation
• Every original head unit accepts the same Y-harness
• Every premium audio system can use the standard recommendation
• No trim removal, amplifier power wiring or tuning is required
• Every component shown in a Focal system diagram is included in one box

Focal itself describes its vehicle solutions as compatibility suggestions and states that components are sold separately. It also acknowledges that minor adjustments may occasionally be needed. The Australian category should use the Plug & Play term only when the exact installation has been confirmed.

3. Which Renault models have the clearest current Focal Inside applications?

The clearest applications are the vehicles that appear in Focal’s current 28-model Renault selector with an actual speaker or system arrangement.

Captur and Clio

Focal lists the first Captur and Captur 2, plus selected Clio IV vehicles from June 2014. Depending on the exact variant, the system may use IS RNS 165 front speakers, IC RNS 165 rear speakers, amplification and a Renault/Dacia Y-ISO harness.

The live selector does not currently list Clio II, Clio III or Clio V as active applications, even though the Australian table contains those vehicles. Earlier Clios in the table rely heavily on discontinued 130mm products, while the Clio V row combines IS RNS 165 with a legacy IC REN 130 rear recommendation and a Nissan Y-ISO harness. Those rows require product-availability and fitment review.

Espace V, Kadjar and Koleos

Focal documents the Espace V, Kadjar, first Koleos and Koleos 2. Current IS RNS 165 and IC RNS 165 products appear across relevant standard-audio configurations. Some documented powered arrangements add an Impulse 4.320, extension cable, power supply set and Renault/Dacia Y-ISO harness.

The factory premium hi-fi option is excluded from standard configurations shown on relevant Focal application pages. Australian Koleos vehicles must be checked for exact grade, audio system and production date rather than relying only on the open-ended Koleos II table entry.

Mégane IV

Focal lists several Mégane IV body styles and trims, including Estate, Sedan, Life/Business, Zen/Intens/GT and RS applications. Current product arrangements use IS RNS 165 and IC RNS 165 in defined positions, with optional amplification and bass configurations for compatible standard systems.

These application records relate to the previous-generation Mégane IV, not automatically to the battery-electric Megane E-Tech currently sold in Australia.

Scenic IV and Grand Scenic IV

Focal lists selected Scenic IV and Grand Scenic IV vehicles. The speaker positions can vary by trim, and the premium original hi-fi option remains an exclusion. Production dates should be reviewed because Focal’s live selector appears to contain an erroneous 2004 start date for some Grand Scenic IV entries.

Talisman, Master III, Trafic III and Zoe

Focal also documents Talisman, Master III, a Trafic III record and Zoe. These are useful starting points, but the Australian table often extends the production years or divides variants differently from the live selector. The exact vehicle must match the actual installation record.

The safest publishing method is to distinguish current Focal selector application from additional Focal Australia compatibility data. That preserves useful local knowledge without suggesting that all 68 rows have the same status.

4. What is the difference between the current RNS speakers and older Renault Focal products?

The current RNS products should be separated clearly from the discontinued Renault families that still appear in the table and category.

IS RNS 165

IS RNS 165 is the current 165mm component kit. It uses a Polyglass woofer and separate aluminium tweeter. It is intended for compatible front locations where the vehicle has, or can accommodate, a separate tweeter.

IC RNS 165

IC RNS 165 is the current 165mm coaxial kit. It places the tweeter with the woofer and is commonly suited to compatible rear locations or vehicles without a separate tweeter position. Unlike IS RNS 165, it uses a DFS woven-glass-fibre cone rather than Polyglass.

IS REN 130 and IC REN 130

These 130mm Renault-specific speakers appear throughout older compatibility data for Clio, Espace, Fluence, Kangoo, Laguna, Mégane, Modus, Scenic, Twingo and other vehicles. Focal now lists both products as no longer available.

The Focal Australia category still shows IS REN 130 and IC REN 130 for sale. If genuine Australian stock remains, the page should say discontinued product — availability limited and confirm whether the normal Australian warranty and replacement support apply. It should not present them as part of Focal’s ongoing Renault range.

IS RNI 690

IS RNI 690 is a shallow 6×9-inch component kit associated with selected Renault and Nissan applications, including Alaskan in the current selector. Focal identifies it as no longer available, and the Australian Renault category does not show it among the 11 products. The Alaskan table row already notes that it is out of stock.

IS REN 165

IS REN 165 appears in the Australian Zoe row, but it is not in Focal’s current Renault catalogue and is not displayed as a purchasable category product. That row should be removed, supported with an archived application document and stock note, or replaced with a currently validated installation path.

A discontinued speaker is not automatically unsafe or unsuitable. The problem is commercial clarity. Customers need to know whether stock exists, whether a matched replacement can be supplied later, whether warranty support is available and whether a current alternative requires different mounting.

5. Can a Renault Clio, Captur, Koleos or Arkana receive a Focal upgrade?

Yes, but these popular Renaults do not share one installation.

Renault Clio

Selected Clio IV vehicles from June 2014 have current Focal Inside documentation. Earlier Clio II and III rows rely on discontinued IS REN 130 and IC REN 130 products. Clio V appears in the Australian table but not Focal’s current Renault selector, and the table combines current and discontinued speakers. A future Clio VI 2026- entry should not be published as settled compatibility until the production model and application are documented.

An installer should check the door speaker diameter, tweeter provision, rear location, connector and head-unit harness before recommending parts. Older Clios can still receive custom Focal products if legacy stock is unavailable.

Renault Captur

Focal lists the first Captur and Captur 2. The Australian table separates Captur I phases, Captur II and a Captur III e-tech entry. The newer naming and fitment should be checked carefully. A facelift does not automatically create a new speaker architecture, but it also cannot be assumed identical without inspection.

Standard-audio Capturs may be suitable for a straightforward RNS speaker pathway. A vehicle with a premium system or newer infotainment architecture may require a different signal and amplification approach.

Renault Koleos

Focal documents first- and second-generation Koleos applications. The second-generation vehicle has strong relevance in Australia, but trim and factory audio matter. Some versions may use more complex premium audio, and alliance architecture does not mean that every Nissan harness or speaker is automatically suitable.

The large cabin can benefit from front and rear speaker replacement, amplification, a compact subwoofer and door treatment. If the factory system is amplified, the installer must measure it before choosing speaker impedance or signal integration.

Renault Arkana

Arkana does not currently appear in Focal’s live Renault selector. The Australian category table lists a broad 2019- application with IS RNS 165, IC RNS 165 and the Renault Y-ISO harness. That should be described as Focal Australia compatibility data requiring confirmation, not a globally documented Focal Inside application.

Current Australian Arkana Hybrid marketing identifies an optional or grade-dependent eight-speaker Bose system. A Bose-equipped Arkana is excluded from the standard speaker-and-Y-harness pathway. Its amplifier, channel allocation, equalisation and factory bass arrangement need to be measured and integrated separately.

6. Can Mégane, Mégane RS and Megane E-Tech audio systems be upgraded?

Yes, but the combustion-engine Mégane generations and the current electric Megane E-Tech are different platforms and must not share automatic fitment claims.

Focal’s live selector has extensive coverage for Mégane IV, including several body styles and grades as well as Mégane RS. In compatible standard-audio vehicles, IS RNS 165 and IC RNS 165 can form the basis of a speaker replacement. Focal also shows amplified and powered configurations using the Impulse 4.320, associated wiring and optional bass products.

Earlier Mégane II and most Mégane III rows in the Australian table rely on discontinued IS REN 130 or IC REN 130 products. Mégane III Coupe Convertible is an exception in the current selector, but the exact speaker locations and body-specific acoustics still need to be checked.

Megane E-Tech is a newer battery-electric vehicle using Renault’s OpenR-based infotainment and an Arkamys premium sound arrangement in the Australian vehicle description. It does not currently appear in Focal’s live Renault selector. The Australian table says IS RNS 165 and IC RNS 165 can be used with speaker fixing-hole adaptation, but this is not the same as a direct-fit Focal Inside application.

Before an electric Megane is upgraded, the dealer should verify:

• Standard Australian audio specification
• Number and location of speakers
• Whether an external amplifier is fitted
• Speaker impedance and connector type
• Full-range signal availability
• Factory equalisation and crossover filtering
• Warning, navigation and welcome-sound routing
• Low-voltage power-system behaviour
• Safe work areas around high-voltage components and cabling

The original displays, vehicle settings, cameras, calls and alerts should remain intact. An aftermarket head-unit replacement is generally unnecessary and may create far more integration problems than it solves.

7. What is the correct approach for Scenic E-Tech, Symbioz, Austral and other newer Renaults?

These newer vehicles should be treated as verification-led installations even where the Australian table lists an RNS speaker size.

Scenic E-Tech

The Australian category table lists Scenic V E-Tech with IS RNS 165 and IC RNS 165 but says that the speaker fixing holes require adaptation. Focal’s current Renault selector stops at Scenic IV and does not publish a Scenic E-Tech application.

Renault Australia offers a nine-speaker Harman Kardon system in Scenic E-Tech esprit Alpine. That premium vehicle requires a multi-channel integration plan and must not receive the standard non-amplified recommendation. A lower-grade standard system may be simpler, but it still needs physical and electrical inspection.

Symbioz

Symbioz is now part of Renault Australia’s 2026 range. The Australian table lists an RNS arrangement with fixing-hole adaptation, while Focal’s current selector does not include the model. Renault Australia documents a nine-speaker Harman Kardon system in the upper specification.

The installer must identify whether the vehicle has standard audio or Harman Kardon before recommending speakers. A badge and model year alone are insufficient.

Austral

Austral is listed in the Australian Focal table with RNS speakers and adaptation notes but is absent from Focal’s current Renault selector and Renault Australia’s August 2026 published range. It may be relevant to private imports or overseas searches. The page should not imply normal Australian availability or direct fitment.

Renault 4, Renault 5, Espace VI and Boreal

These are current or emerging overseas-market subjects, and the page may capture useful search interest. However, the exact official names, market specification and audio grade must be stated. Renault 4 E-Tech and Renault 5 E-Tech can be offered with newer infotainment and premium Harman Kardon configurations in some markets. A generic RNS diameter entry is not enough to confirm compatibility.

Boreal is an international-market SUV and should not be mixed with the normal Australian range. Aurora should be removed until a final public model identity and application source can be confirmed.

For every newer Renault, the page should say that an Authorised Focal Australia Dealer can inspect the vehicle and design a custom system if a documented direct-fit application is unavailable.

8. Can Renault Kangoo, Trafic and Master vans receive a speaker and audio upgrade?

Yes. Renault commercial vans are strong candidates for audio improvement because they are often used for long working days, but body configuration and commercial use create additional variables.

Kangoo

The Australian table lists Kangoo II with discontinued 130mm products and Kangoo III with current RNS speakers plus mounting adaptation. Focal’s live Renault selector does not currently list Kangoo, so both generations should be treated as compatibility records requiring verification rather than automatic live-selector applications.

Panel-van and passenger versions can have different rear speakers, trim, cargo barriers and cabin acoustics. Kangoo E-Tech also requires electric-vehicle safety and low-voltage power considerations.

Trafic

Focal’s live selector includes a Trafic III record, while the Australian table separates Phase 1, Phase 2, commercial and SpaceNomad versions. The years do not align perfectly between sources. Some table rows combine IS RNS 165 front speakers with discontinued IC REN 130 rear speakers, while the commercial version may not have a normal rear-speaker provision.

Camper conversions require special inspection. Cabinets, lining, added seats, auxiliary electrical systems and altered speaker positions can make a factory application irrelevant. The table correctly says SpaceNomad rear fitment needs to be checked in camper use.

Master

Focal documents Master III from 2010–2024 and shows configurations that can include speakers, an Impulse 4.320, power wiring and bass reinforcement. The Australian table separates Master III, commercial variants and Master IV.

New Master and New Master E-Tech are now part of Renault Australia’s range, but Master IV is not in Focal’s live selector. The category table’s current speaker recommendation should therefore be verified against the actual Australian van and infotainment system.

Van installations should account for road and cargo noise, long cable routes, partition walls, load-area use, amplifier ventilation and secure mounting. A stronger front stage, suitable amplification, carefully positioned subwoofer and selective acoustic treatment can produce a more useful improvement than simply adding rear speakers to an empty cargo body.

9. Can Zoe and other Renault electric vehicles be upgraded safely?

Yes. A Renault electric vehicle can receive an audio upgrade, but the installer must work within the vehicle’s high-voltage safety boundaries and design the equipment around the low-voltage electrical system.

Focal’s current selector includes Renault Zoe from 2012–2024. However, the Australian table limits Zoe to 2012–2017 and specifies the absent IS REN 165, a Renault spacer, discontinued IC REN 130 and a Nissan Y-ISO harness. That row is not ready for an unconditional current product recommendation.

Newer electric Renaults include Megane E-Tech, Scenic E-Tech, Kangoo E-Tech and Master E-Tech. Renault 4 and Renault 5 E-Tech may also generate Australian search interest even where local availability is limited. These vehicles can use newer infotainment systems, integrated audio processing and market-specific premium systems.

Important EV installation requirements include:

• Do not treat the traction battery as a normal aftermarket-audio supply
• Power audio equipment only from approved low-voltage connection points
• Confirm low-voltage battery chemistry, charging behaviour and energy management
• Avoid orange high-voltage cables and protected high-voltage zones
• Follow the correct shutdown and wake-up procedures
• Protect airbags, restraint wiring, sensors and vehicle communication networks
• Confirm standby current and amplifier sleep behaviour
• Secure all equipment against movement and impact
• Preserve battery cooling, service access and cabin safety

Electric propulsion reduces engine noise, which can make improvements in detail easier to hear. It can also expose rattles, switching noise or poor tuning. Careful speaker sealing, selective BAM treatment and a well-integrated subwoofer can be very effective.

The final system does not need excessive power to sound excellent. Correct speakers, clean amplification, low-noise integration and accurate tuning are more important than chasing a large wattage figure.

10. How are Bose, Harman Kardon and Arkamys Renault systems different from standard audio?

Premium Renault systems should be treated as separate audio architectures rather than standard systems with extra speakers.

Bose

Renault Australia identifies an eight-speaker Bose system in the current Arkana Hybrid range. Previous Renault vehicles, including selected Koleos, Mégane and other grades, may also carry Bose branding depending on market and model year.

A Bose system can use a dedicated amplifier, unusual speaker impedances, active crossovers, factory equalisation and a dedicated bass enclosure. Replacing one speaker with a conventional 4-ohm product without measuring the system can reduce output, alter tonal balance or place an unsuitable load on the amplifier.

Harman Kardon

Renault Australia documents nine-speaker Harman Kardon systems in Scenic E-Tech esprit Alpine and upper Symbioz specifications. Overseas Renault 4, Renault 5 and other newer models may also offer Harman Kardon, but those arrangements should not be assumed identical.

A nine-speaker system may include a centre channel, separate tweeters, door speakers, surround or rear-fill channels and a subwoofer. Channel count, bandwidth, time alignment and equalisation must be measured before deciding which factory components should remain, be replaced or be integrated with a DSP.

Arkamys

Arkamys can describe an audio-system tuning and processing arrangement rather than merely a speaker brand. Renault Australia describes the Megane E-Tech as using a premium sound system by Arkamys. The installer should establish whether the signal is processed in the head unit, an external amplifier or both.

The standard Focal Inside configurations shown for older Renaults commonly state that they are not compatible with the original premium hi-fi option. That warning should be carried onto the Australian category prominently.

A premium system can still be upgraded. The correct method may involve retaining the factory source and amplifier for essential functions, extracting or combining multiple channels, using an appropriate DSP, matching replacement speaker loads and tuning the complete system. It should not be sold as the same job as fitting four speakers to a standard radio.

11. Can Focal replace a blown, distorted or rattling Renault factory speaker?

Usually, yes, but the fault should be diagnosed before a replacement is ordered.

A Renault owner may report:

• Buzzing or rattling on bass notes
• One door that is quieter than the others
• Intermittent sound
• No output from a tweeter or door speaker
• Distortion at modest volume
• Crackling when the vehicle moves over bumps
• Bass that has become weak or uneven

The speaker may be damaged, but the fault can also come from a loose connector, broken door wiring, water ingress, damaged trim, a failed amplifier channel, a source-unit problem, incorrect previous wiring or factory processing that is being mistaken for a fault.

An Authorised Focal Australia Dealer should test the speaker, wiring, amplifier and source signal. If the factory speaker has failed, the dealer can recommend a confirmed Focal Inside replacement or a professionally adapted alternative.

Speakers are normally replaced as a matched left-and-right pair. Mixing one new speaker with one aged factory speaker can create different sensitivity, tone, impedance and output between sides. In a component system, the woofer, tweeter and filter should also be treated as a matched acoustic set.

For a Bose or Harman Kardon vehicle, a nominally similar aftermarket speaker may not be electrically compatible with the factory amplifier. The original impedance and filtered channel bandwidth must be measured.

This question is commercially useful because many owners search for a repair rather than an audio upgrade. The page should explain that Focal can often solve both needs, while avoiding the promise that every individual factory speaker has a direct one-for-one replacement.

12. Will the original Renault screen, controls, calls and warning sounds still work?

They should. Retaining normal vehicle operation is a core requirement of a properly designed Renault audio upgrade.

Renault infotainment systems have included Media Nav, R-LINK, EASY LINK and newer OpenR arrangements. Depending on the vehicle, the system may control entertainment, Bluetooth, phone calls, navigation, cameras, parking functions, vehicle settings, connected services, charging information and driver-assistance features.

A speaker-only installation normally leaves the factory screen and source unit in place. Steering-wheel controls and normal infotainment operation should therefore remain unchanged.

The risk increases when an amplifier, DSP or signal converter is introduced. The installer needs to identify:

• Where a clean and stable audio signal is available
• Whether the signal is analogue, digitally networked or already amplified
• Which channels carry telephone, navigation and parking sounds
• Whether warning tones use a particular front, centre or door speaker
• Whether the factory amplifier must remain connected
• How volume, balance and fader behave after integration
• Whether equalisation changes with speed or volume
• Whether the vehicle monitors the speaker load
• How the system enters sleep mode and wakes up

The Renault/Dacia Y-ISO harness can provide a clean integration path for the Impulse 4.320 in specifically compatible ISO-equipped standard systems. It does not prove that the same harness works with every R-LINK, EASY LINK, OpenR, Bose or Harman Kardon configuration.

After installation, the dealer should test music playback, radio, calls, navigation prompts, parking tones, cameras, alerts, balance, fader and diagnostic behaviour. The owner should be able to use the Renault normally while hearing a substantial improvement in sound quality.

13. Does a Renault speaker upgrade need an amplifier or DSP?

Not every Renault needs an aftermarket amplifier or digital signal processor, but both can make a major difference when the factory source is weak or heavily processed.
