The Focal IS BMW 100KL is a premium vehicle-specific 2-way component speaker kit designed to upgrade selected BMW-family factory audio systems while retaining compatible original speaker locations and interior trim.
The kit combines 100mm K2 Sandwich-cone woofers with separate TKM M-profile inverted-dome tweeters. This component arrangement improves vocal clarity, instrument separation, soundstage definition and dynamic impact while maintaining a discreet factory-style installation.
The IS BMW 100KL is the shallower K2 component option within Focal’s BMW range. Its 36mm woofer mounting depth supports selected locations where the deeper IS BMW 100K may not be suitable.
BMW Factory Audio Compatibility
Compatible with selected BMW vehicles equipped with Standard Audio, Hi-Fi or Harman Kardon systems where specifically listed. Compatibility varies by model, production year, market, speaker position and factory audio configuration. Vehicles equipped with Bowers & Wilkins or other premium systems may require a different solution. BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles can use different factory amplifiers, speaker impedances, connectors, equalisation and channel processing. Physical speaker fitment does not automatically confirm electrical or acoustic compatibility with every factory system.
The exact vehicle model, chassis code, production date, audio package and intended front, rear or rear-shelf speaker position must be confirmed before purchase.
2-Way BMW Component Speaker Design
The IS BMW 100KL installs its woofer and tweeter in separate compatible factory locations. The 100mm woofer reproduces midrange and upper-bass information, while the separate tweeter handles high-frequency detail.
Positioning the tweeter higher in the cabin helps lift the perceived soundstage and place vocals and instruments closer to dashboard level. This produces a wider, more focused and more naturally positioned presentation than many standard factory speaker arrangements.
100mm K2 Sandwich-Cone Woofers
The 100mm woofers use Focal’s K2 Sandwich cone technology, developed to balance low mass, rigidity and damping. The cone responds quickly to changes in the music while resisting unwanted deformation and resonance.
Vocals, guitars, piano and percussion gain improved definition and texture, while drums and bass instruments receive stronger and more controlled upper-bass and mid-bass reproduction.
The K2 cone’s distinctive construction supports a dynamic and detailed presentation without relying on exaggerated treble or uncontrolled bass.
TKM M-Profile Inverted-Dome Tweeters
Separate TKM inverted-dome tweeters reproduce frequencies up to 22kHz. Their M-profile design supports precise high-frequency response, broad dispersion and smooth treble reproduction.
Cymbals, strings, vocal harmonics and subtle recording details become easier to distinguish, while the separate tweeter locations improve soundstage height and focus.
Correct tweeter location, orientation and polarity remain important to achieving the intended result.
Shallow 36mm Mounting Depth
The IS BMW 100KL woofer has a published mounting depth of 36mm, compared with 41mm for the IS BMW 100K. This shallower construction is the key practical distinction between the two K2 BMW component kits.
The reduced depth supports selected restricted factory locations while retaining the same 60W RMS power rating, 120W maximum power handling, 4-ohm nominal impedance and 80Hz–22kHz frequency response.
The IS BMW 100K and IS BMW 100KL should not be treated as universally interchangeable. The exact mounting depth, fixing points, connector and surrounding clearance must be checked for the intended speaker position.
Sound Performance and Bass Response
The IS BMW 100KL is designed to improve midrange clarity, upper-bass definition, high-frequency detail and overall soundstage quality.
Its 100mm woofers provide stronger and more controlled mid-bass than many lightweight factory speakers, helping kick drums and bass instruments sound more defined and better integrated with the rest of the music.
The kit is not a replacement for the vehicle’s under-seat woofers or a dedicated subwoofer. Deeper low-frequency reproduction remains the responsibility of the correctly matched BMW under-seat woofer or an additional subwoofer system.

The 100mm measurement refers to the woofer. The tweeter should be identified by its TKM M-profile inverted-dome design rather than described as a 100mm tweeter.
