The Focal IS VW 180 is a vehicle-specific 2-way component speaker kit designed to improve the clarity, dynamics and tonal balance of compatible Volkswagen factory audio systems.
The kit combines large 180mm Black Polyglass woofers with separate aluminium inverted-dome tweeters. The increased woofer cone area contributes to stronger and more controlled mid-bass, clearer midrange reproduction and greater musical impact, while the separate tweeters add high-frequency detail and improve soundstage positioning.
The IS VW 180 is designed for selected Volkswagen vehicles and may also support compatible SEAT and Škoda applications.
Factory Audio Compatibility

In a compatible non-amplified vehicle, the original factory head unit sends powered speaker-level signals directly to the speakers. Replacing supported original speakers with the IS VW 180 can provide a substantial improvement while retaining the original radio, infotainment system and vehicle controls.
Factory-amplified and premium systems may use a separate amplifier, active filtering, digital signal processing or different speaker impedances. Dynaudio, Harman Kardon and other premium configurations require separate assessment.
2-Way Component Speaker Design
The 180mm woofers and aluminium tweeters install in separate compatible factory locations. The woofers reproduce midrange and upper-bass frequencies, while the tweeters reproduce high-frequency information.
Positioning the tweeters above the main door woofers helps raise the soundstage and place vocals and instruments closer to dashboard level. The result is a wider, more detailed and more naturally positioned front presentation.
Large 180mm Black Polyglass Woofers
The 180mm Black Polyglass woofers provide greater cone area than many smaller factory speakers. This allows them to move more air and deliver stronger mid-bass, improved efficiency and greater musical impact.
Kick drums gain additional punch, bass guitars become easier to follow and lower vocal and instrumental frequencies receive greater weight. The speakers provide useful extension and strong mid-bass, while a dedicated subwoofer remains the appropriate solution for deeper low-frequency reproduction.
Polyglass Cone Technology
Focal Polyglass technology applies fine glass microbeads to a cellulose pulp cone. The construction combines the damping characteristics of paper with the additional rigidity of glass.
This helps control resonance and maintain accurate cone movement, improving midrange definition and reducing congestion during complex musical passages.
Aluminium Inverted-Dome Tweeters
The separate aluminium inverted-dome tweeters provide rapid response and broad high-frequency dispersion. Aluminium increases dome rigidity and helps reduce distortion, allowing cymbals, strings, vocal harmonics and subtle recording details to be reproduced with greater clarity.
Adaptation rings and mounting foams support integration into selected compatible original tweeter locations.
Integrated Frequency Filtering
The IS VW 180 uses an integrated woofer filter and inline tweeter filter. These components divide the signal between the two drivers, helping them blend smoothly and protecting the tweeter from unsuitable low-frequency energy.

Efficient 2-Ohm Vehicle-Specific Design
The 2-ohm nominal impedance and 94dB sensitivity support effective performance from compatible non-amplified factory head units. The electrical design is vehicle-specific and must be confirmed for the exact source unit and installation.
Any connected aftermarket amplifier must be stable at 2 ohms and suitable for the system configuration.
Compatible with Suitable Aftermarket Amplification
The IS VW 180 can be powered by a correctly specified aftermarket amplifier. The Focal Impulse 4.320 may be integrated in selected compatible non-amplified Volkswagen systems using the required Volkswagen Y-ISO Harness, extension cable, power-supply wiring and other identified accessories.
Amplifier integration is not suitable for factory-amplified or premium Volkswagen audio systems unless a separate approved solution has been identified.
Vehicle-Specific Integration
The woofers incorporate dedicated connectors and vehicle-specific mounting provisions for selected compatible factory locations. The separate tweeters use adaptation rings and supplied foams for suitable original high-frequency positions.
Once installed, the speakers remain concealed behind the original trim and factory grilles, preserving the factory-style interior appearance.
Compatible Applications
The IS VW 180 is listed for selected Volkswagen models and speaker positions, including compatible versions of the Arteon, Atlas, Beetle, Bora, Caddy, Eos, Golf, Jetta, Passat, Sharan, Tiguan, Touareg, Touran and other supported vehicles.
Selected SEAT and Škoda applications may also be supported, including compatible versions of the Alhambra, Kodiaq, Octavia, Superb and Yeti. Every application must be confirmed against the exact vehicle, production year, original audio system and intended speaker position.
Front and Rear Applications
The IS VW 180 is commonly used in compatible front-door positions with large woofers and separate factory tweeters. Depending on the vehicle, a smaller IS VW 155, IS VW 165 or IC VW 165 may be used in the rear.
Front and rear speaker products must be confirmed separately because locations and sizes vary across vehicle generations.
