Connect the Focal Impulse 4.320 to a Compatible Volkswagen Factory Head Unit
The Focal IW VW Y-ISO Harness is a vehicle-specific integration cable designed to connect the Focal Impulse 4.320 compact 4-channel amplifier to selected compatible Volkswagen factory head units.
The harness connects between the vehicle’s original audio wiring and the Focal Inside amplifier cabling system. It allows compatible factory speaker-level signals to be routed through the Impulse 4.320 without cutting, splicing or soldering supported factory speaker wiring.
The original Volkswagen radio or infotainment system remains installed, helping preserve the dashboard appearance, steering-wheel controls, reversing-camera display, vehicle settings and other integrated functions.
Factory Audio Compatibility
Not compatible with factory amplified or premium Volkswagen audio systems. Designed for compatible non-amplified factory audio systems only. Please refer to the Compatibility Guide or contact your nearest Authorised Focal Australia Dealer to confirm compatibility.
In a compatible non-amplified Volkswagen, the original radio or infotainment unit sends powered speaker-level signals directly to the factory speakers. The IW VW Y-ISO Harness routes these signals to the Focal Impulse 4.320 amplifier and returns the amplified output through compatible Focal Inside cabling and the original vehicle speaker wiring.
Factory-amplified and premium systems use a different signal path and may incorporate a separate amplifier, active filtering, digital communication, channel-specific equalisation or non-standard speaker impedances.
Designed for the Focal Impulse 4.320
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness has been developed for integration with the Focal Impulse 4.320 compact 4-channel Class-D amplifier. The harness provides the vehicle-specific connection at the original factory head unit and then connects to the appropriate Focal Inside extension and amplifier cables.
The harness is an integration cable only. Unless included within a specific Focal Australia vehicle pack, the amplifier, extension cable, IW IMP harness, power wiring, ground cable, fuse components, replacement speakers and IW SPK SIM are sold separately.

ISO Connections Without Soldering
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness connects to compatible Focal Inside extension cables through ISO connectors. These connections allow supported factory audio wiring to be integrated without individually soldering speaker wires.
A correctly fitted harness provides a cleaner, more reliable and more serviceable installation than manually cutting and joining the vehicle’s original wiring. The complete amplifier installation still requires suitable power wiring, grounding, cable routing, amplifier mounting and configuration.
Designed for Selected Post-2005 Volkswagen Factory Head Units
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness is designed for selected compatible Volkswagen factory head units used in vehicles manufactured after approximately 2005.
Compatibility is determined by the vehicle’s original head unit, connector and audio architecture rather than the production year alone. Volkswagen has used numerous radios, infotainment systems, connectors and factory audio configurations across individual models, generations and markets.
Harness Selection Is Based on the Factory Head Unit
Depending on the exact vehicle, a Focal amplifier installation may require:

– IW BMW Y-ISO universal Fakra harness
– Direct ISO connection
– Another Focal vehicle-specific harness
– IW SPK SIM speaker impedance simulator
– Physical inspection of the original head-unit connector
– A conventional aftermarket-radio installation method
Two vehicles carrying the same Volkswagen model name may require different integration products because of a model update, production change, infotainment option or market-specific configuration.
Not Every Volkswagen Uses the VW Y-ISO Harness
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness is suitable only for selected compatible Volkswagen factory head units. Some vehicles use direct ISO connections, the IW BMW Y-ISO universal Fakra harness, another integration cable or a connector that must be physically verified.
The Compatibility Guide should be used to identify the appropriate connection for the exact vehicle. Where the guide requires confirmation, the factory head unit should be inspected before ordering the harness.
Volkswagen Amarok Applications Vary by Generation
Volkswagen Amarok harness requirements vary according to the model generation, production period and original head unit. Selected earlier applications may require the IW BMW Y-ISO universal Fakra harness, while later compatible first-generation vehicles may use the IW VW Y-ISO Harness.
The newer-generation Amarok uses a different vehicle platform and requires separate compatibility checking.
Selected Installations May Require the IW SPK SIM
Some compatible Volkswagen amplifier installations require the IW SPK SIM speaker impedance simulator in addition to the IW VW Y-ISO Harness. The simulator provides a speaker load where the original head unit monitors the connected circuits.
The IW SPK SIM should only be added where the current Harness Compatibility Guide specifically identifies it as required.
Retain the Original Volkswagen Head Unit
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness allows a compatible original Volkswagen radio or infotainment system to remain installed when adding the Focal Impulse 4.320 amplifier.
This helps preserve steering-wheel audio functions, Bluetooth and media playback, reversing-camera displays, parking information, navigation, vehicle settings and the original dashboard appearance.
Designed for Original Factory Head Units
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness is intended for selected original factory head units. It is not a general amplifier adapter for an aftermarket radio.
Aftermarket head units commonly provide RCA preamp outputs, dedicated amplifier remote switching and conventional speaker connections. Those installations normally require a standard amplifier wiring kit or another appropriate connection method.
Preserve the Original Vehicle Wiring
In confirmed applications, the IW VW Y-ISO Harness allows supported original speaker wiring and factory connectors to remain intact. Avoiding unnecessary cutting or splicing reduces the risk of poor connections, intermittent faults, reversed polarity and future troubleshooting difficulties.
The installation can remain substantially reversible when the factory wiring, connectors and surrounding trim are protected.

The Harness Does Not Power the Amplifier
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness carries audio and speaker connections; it does not provide the primary electrical power required by the Impulse 4.320 amplifier.
The amplifier requires a correctly sized and fused power connection and a suitable vehicle ground. Power wiring must be protected and routed away from heat, moisture, sharp edges, moving components, control wiring and airbag equipment.
The Harness Does Not Improve Sound by Itself
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness is an integration cable rather than an amplifier, speaker or digital signal processor. Installing the harness alone does not increase audio power or directly improve sound quality.
The performance improvement comes from the connected amplifier, compatible speakers, correct system design and installation quality. The harness provides the electrical pathway that allows these components to operate with the compatible original Volkswagen head unit.
Factory Equalisation May Remain
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness routes the original factory audio signal to the aftermarket amplifier. It does not remove equalisation, bass reduction, frequency filtering or volume-dependent processing already applied by the source unit.
Vehicles requiring signal correction, channel summing, time alignment or advanced acoustic tuning may require a digital signal processor or another integration solution.
Compatible Volkswagen Group Applications
The IW VW Y-ISO Harness may be listed for selected Volkswagen, Audi, CUPRA, Jetta, SEAT, Škoda, Porsche and MAN vehicles that use a compatible factory connector and non-amplified audio system.
Each application must be checked against the exact model, production period, original head unit, factory connector and audio configuration. Compatibility with one vehicle does not confirm compatibility with another model from the same automotive group.

The installer can confirm the factory audio system, identify the original head-unit connector, determine whether the VW Y-ISO Harness or another connection is required, identify any IW SPK SIM requirement, route the cables safely, mount the amplifier and configure the complete system.
