The Focal IS BMW 100 is a vehicle-specific 2-way component speaker kit designed to improve the clarity, tonal balance and soundstage of selected BMW-family factory audio systems.
The kit combines 100mm Black Polyglass woofers with separate aluminium/magnesium inverted-dome tweeters. This component arrangement provides clearer vocals, improved instrument separation, stronger and more controlled mid-bass, and more detailed high-frequency reproduction while retaining compatible original speaker locations.
The IS BMW 100 is intended for factory positions that provide separate locations for the woofer and tweeter. Exact fitment must be confirmed for the vehicle, production year, audio package and intended speaker position.
BMW Factory Audio Compatibility
Compatible with selected BMW vehicles equipped with Standard Audio, Hi-Fi, Top Hi-Fi or Harman Kardon systems where specifically listed. Compatibility varies by model, production year, market, speaker position and factory audio configuration. Vehicles equipped with Bowers & Wilkins or other premium systems may require a different solution. BMW vehicles can use different factory amplifiers, speaker impedances, connectors, equalisation and channel processing. A speaker that physically fits a factory location is not automatically compatible with every original audio configuration.
The vehicle model, chassis code, production date, factory audio package and front, rear or rear-shelf position must be checked before purchase.
2-Way BMW Component Speaker Design
The IS BMW 100 installs its woofer and tweeter in separate compatible factory locations. The Polyglass woofer reproduces midrange and upper-bass frequencies, while the separate tweeter handles high-frequency detail.
Positioning the tweeter higher in the cabin can lift the perceived soundstage and place vocals and instruments closer to dashboard level. This helps create a wider and more naturally focused presentation than a single lower-mounted speaker.
100mm Black Polyglass Woofers
The 100mm woofers use Focal’s Black Polyglass cone technology. Fine glass microbeads are applied to a cellulose pulp cone to combine the damping characteristics of paper with increased rigidity.
This construction helps control unwanted resonance while improving midrange definition. Vocals, guitars, piano and percussion gain clearer texture, and complex recordings remain easier to follow.
The 100mm measurement refers to the woofer. The separate tweeter should be identified by its aluminium/magnesium inverted-dome construction rather than described as a 100mm tweeter.
Aluminium/Magnesium Inverted-Dome Tweeters
The separate aluminium/magnesium inverted-dome tweeters reproduce detailed high frequencies with broad dispersion and controlled response.
Aluminium contributes rigidity, while magnesium adds damping. Cymbals, strings, vocal harmonics and subtle recording details become easier to distinguish without relying on excessively sharp treble.
Correct tweeter location, polarity and orientation remain important to achieving the intended soundstage.
Stronger Mid-Bass and More Defined Midrange
The IS BMW 100 has a published frequency response of 80Hz-23kHz. Its 100mm woofers provide useful upper-bass and mid-bass output, helping drums and bass instruments sound more controlled and better integrated with vocals and instruments.
The kit should be described as improving mid-bass and midrange definition rather than producing true deep bass. BMW under-seat woofers or a dedicated subwoofer remain responsible for the lowest frequencies.

4-Ohm Design for Compatible Factory and Aftermarket Systems
The IS BMW 100 has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. It can operate in selected compatible factory systems and may also be used with a correctly specified aftermarket amplifier.
Electrical compatibility must be assessed separately from physical fitment. The connected factory or aftermarket amplifier must be suitable for the speaker impedance, power handling and signal configuration.
Vehicle-Specific Plug & Play Integration
Dedicated BMW-compatible connectors and an integrated vehicle-specific spacer support installation in selected original speaker locations without cutting compatible factory speaker wiring.
Plug & Play describes the dedicated connections and mounting design used in confirmed applications. It does not mean that the IS BMW 100 fits every BMW-family vehicle or every speaker position.
Minor installation requirements can include careful trim removal, replacement clips, acoustic sealing, vibration control and confirmation of clearance around the factory mounting location.
41mm Mounting Depth and Position-Specific Fitment
The woofer has a published mounting depth of 41mm. Speaker depth, frame geometry, fixing points and connector orientation must all be checked for the intended factory position.
Related Focal BMW products use different chassis depths and mounting arrangements. The IS BMW 100, IS BMW 100L, IS BMW 100 V2 and K2 BMW kits should not be treated as universally interchangeable.
Factory Speaker Replacement and Amplifier Upgrades Require Different Checks
The IS BMW 100 may be listed as a direct speaker replacement in selected Standard Audio, Hi-Fi, Top Hi-Fi or Harman Kardon systems.
This does not mean that a Focal Impulse 4.320 amplifier and harness can be added to every one of those systems. Focal’s Impulse integration solutions are generally limited to selected standard non-amplified vehicles and require the correct harness, power wiring and system configuration.
Factory-amplified systems require separate assessment before any aftermarket amplification is added.
Compatible BMW, Alpina, MINI, Rolls-Royce and Toyota Supra Applications
The IS BMW 100 is listed for selected BMW and Alpina passenger vehicles, selected MINI models, selected Rolls-Royce speaker locations, Toyota Supra applications and some BMW Motorrad positions.
These are broad application groups rather than confirmation that every model year, body style, market specification, audio package or speaker position is compatible.
The current Compatibility Guide must be used to confirm the exact vehicle and intended location.
Front, Rear and Rear-Shelf Speaker Positions Can Differ
Depending on the vehicle, the IS BMW 100 may be specified for front doors, rear doors or rear-shelf positions.
A kit confirmed for one position should not automatically be assumed to fit another location in the same vehicle. Some positions may require the IS BMW 100L, IC BMW 100, IC BMW 100L, ICC BMW 100 or another dedicated Focal Inside product.
Build a Complete Focal Inside BMW Audio System
A complete BMW upgrade can combine the IS BMW 100 with compatible rear or supplementary speakers, the ICC BMW 100 centre channel and correctly matched BMW under-seat woofers.
BMW under-seat woofers are available in different impedances. The appropriate 2-ohm, 4-ohm or 8-ohm version must be selected according to the original factory system and proposed amplification.
A dedicated subwoofer can also be added where deeper low-frequency extension is required.
Retain the Original BMW Interior
In a confirmed application, the IS BMW 100 remains concealed behind compatible original trim and factory speaker grilles.
The dashboard, doors, controls and infotainment functions remain unchanged while the audio system benefits from improved speaker technology.
The installation can remain substantially reversible when the original wiring, connectors, mounting points and trim components are preserved.
